Shuttle bus is on the go but must be used
A SHUTTLE bus service which stopped after the company running it went bust, is now back on track.
Passengers wanting to use the number 74 which travels around Overton were left in the lurch when it suddenly stopped without warning on August 16.
Steventon Transport Services, based in Hatchgate Cottage, in Waltham Lane, Steventon, also stopped running its other service, the number 55 route from Steventon to Basingstoke via North Waltham, Dummer and Hatch Warren, after going into voluntary liquidation on August 15.
Basingstoke Community Transport conducted a trial run of the number 74, on Saturday, August 20, and has now agreed a tender price with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, to continue running it permanently.
The shuttle operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Hampshire County Council funds the services during the week, while the borough council funds the Saturday service. The county council had been subsidising the 55 to the tune of £41,000 for the year.
Overton parish councillor Brian Langer is urging people to use the bus so it can carry on running.

Organisers say Waltham Road will no longer be included in the route because of a problem with parked cars.
A lorry became stuck at the junction of the road with Battens Avenue on August 23, which also jeopardised the schedule. However, Mede Close and Kercher’s Field will now be served by the shuttle. Single journey fares for non pass-holders will cost £1.
The mini-bus employed for the service can only hold 16 people and its popularity has already meant it could not accommodate some passengers on journeys from the centre of the village.
