Lacoste spring 2012 New York Fashion Week handbags

Lacoste sent their spring 2012 collection down the New York Fashion Week runway today and there was a fresh show of geometric patterns, bold color combinations and the bucket handbag. The Lacoste hemlines were high and jackets were long either meeting the hemlines or coming within inches of them. The shoes were high and two tone and a few models walked down the catwalk carrying a double handle bucket bag.

The double handle bucket bag on the Lacoste spring 2012 New York Fashion Week runway featured two small double handles which allowed the bag to be handheld. There was a drawstring closure and structured round bottom which gave the bucket bag a strong silhouette without being slouchy.

Lacoste’s bucket bag was classic and a traditional style which stays true to the brand’s iconic image. The overall collection on the New York Fashion Week runway was a filled with classic Lacoste horizontal stripes, golf shirts and simple trench coats mixed with modern geometric prints, high hems and smock dresses created in bold, seasonal colors.

That was the memo I took home from yesterday’s shows. Constructed restrained pieces; blazers, cutout vests, and tailored leather shorts with the juxtaposition of relaxed easy breezy flowy silhouettes, even slouchy.

Rebecca Taylor: The palette started soft and pale with sparkle on top – and then went dark and floral. We saw a lot of flowy sheer asymmetrical skirts and dresses – mid-calf. Pieces that made you want to be the girl who’s packing for her honeymoon to Bora Bora. A chic long sleeve citrus knit dress – mid-calf. There seemed to be a theme of textile collage. Pieces to obsess about: mesh sweaters, a leather apron top and pearl sequin encrusted trousers.

Nicole Miller : The color was unexpended bright and prints as she introduced us to her skateboard chick. Lot of crazy patterns that somehow worked. And yeah, actually really worked. Her spring is a tad dark with several black looks. This girl feels younger and gutsier than what I know of the Nicole Miller girl – shaking up her customers’ phonebooks perhaps? The must-haves: Patchwork print legging (if you can swing it), Denim linen V-neck sweater, Silk patchwork print jumpsuit (très 80’s – but not obnoxiously 80’s), and a Checkboard print sheath with shoulder pads.

Mara Hoffman: This girl is the cleaned up modern version of Frida Kahlo. So fun – so free. This girl is definitely an artist – très exotic. Those of us that have been looking for the “it” caftan – it’s ben found. A clear message from yesterday’s shows including Mara Hoffman is that jumpsuits are not going anywhere – they’ve become the “metallics” of silhouettes. We’ve been watching jumpsuits for several seasons now and it’s official: jumpsuits are not a trend – they are classic. With all this tribalness in colored patterns there seemed to be a thin theme of sheerness. Another silhouette to love: high waist slouchy trousers (that doesn’t make your ass look long).
