WWE House Show Report 9.04.11: Wheeling, WV ...

This was a small but very enthusiastic and vocal crowd. Wesbanco Arena seats over 5,500 for concert and wrestling events. While all of the floor seats were filled, many of the sections around the arena were open. The ends the arena were virtually empty. This show was originally scheduled to be a Smackdown show on June 4th, but was postponed until today. If it was due to poor ticket sales, it doesn’t look like the wait did any good. That’s surprising because Wheeling usually has a pretty big turn out for WWE events.
Justin Roberts welcomed us to the show.
Evan Bourne / Kofi Kingston (Air Boom) vs. R-Truth / The Miz for the Tag Team titles Crowd was full of “who is this guy” for Watson, but got behind him. Watson is built and cut much like Bobby Lashley. Primo did the majority of the work here, as Watson didn’t show much offense. Waston got the pin after using a move that I can describe as a fireman’s carry into a front-face slam.
Jack Swagger vs. Alex Riley Ricardo Rodriguez came to the ring and introduced ADR, who did his best to get up in the faces of the fans. He genuinely seemed to enjoy harassing the fans. He got huge heat. C.M. Punk came out to a comparably loud pop. ADR continued to get heat when he took some kid’s C.M. Punk sign and teased giving it back before ripping it up. Match was back and forth, with Punk nearly falling off the top rope while delivering a clothesline at one point, which he laughed about…clearly embarrassed. The finish came when Rodriguez distracted the rope, allowing Del Rio to knock Punk off the top corner rope and pin him. Post match, Punk laid out Del Rio and ripped the pants off of Rodriguez.
This bought us to intermission.
After intermission, Eve was in the ring to announce a contest for a fan to go backstage. This bought out Beth Phoenix who interrupted Eve and called out Kelly Kelly.
