Is there a way to invest without losing your shirt (and pants)? Now in early fall this year, although you would not know it by the summer weather here, small investors are still feeling tentative about not piling back into the market.
At the exact moment when 10 years earlier the 9/11 attacks began, the HDNet networks acknowledge the anniversary with a one-minute moment of silence to commemorate all who were lost. Telling Nicholas – HBO Signature, Sept. 11, 10:30am ET/PT.

Sassy Image, the favorite, leapt at the break and bore out badly, basically bolting to the outside fence, to lose all chance. She reportedly tore a quarter off her left front, probably when she leapt at the start, and that may have explained the
Mental Connections » So many memories
September 10th, 2011 by Andrew
Well, it’s certainly a weekend for reflection. A confluence of events. Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of 9/11, certainly a time of reflection, as it’s one of those days where everyone remembers where they were (though research shows those memories aren’t very accurate). I received word this morning that my grandma passed away at 5:30 this morning. More memories. Mostly wonderful memories, in fact. I’m scheduled to go to a party tomorrow. A wonderful party. A pizza party. The invitation opens with this:
So much to think about. So much to feel. I’m glad that there are good memories to remember though – it’s worth remembering, and I think it makes everything else easier.
I’ll start with a few reflections on 9/11. I was in college, and it was the start of my junior year. I did not take any business classes that semester – I thought there were too many important things going on in the world (before 9/11), so I put off the capstone integrated business class (IMC 3), and took international classes – global culture, international trade theory, public international law, and nationalization and globalization. I was in my global culture class. I don’t remember for sure how we found out, but I think one of the students arrived late, and said that a plane had crashed in NYC. Being a business college, a lot of students had family who worked there. I also had friends, who had graduated the year before, but it literally did not cross my mind that anything could have happened to them. Something like that couldn’t happen to somebody I knew. A number of people in class had laptops, and tried pulling up CNN, with very little success. Was the internet down? NO – other sites were working. CNN again – after a few tries it worked. Somebody hooked a projector up to the computer, so everyone could see on the big screen. The news was so spotty then, it still wasn’t clear how big a deal it was. I don’t remember if the professor decided first, or if word was distributed by the school, but classes were canceled, and everyone started gathering in Knight Auditorium. One of my favorite/closest professors was there, and said she couldn’t get a hold of her husband, who worked in the city (she commuted up from NJ to teach, and her husband worked in NYC). I was horrified and saddened by the pain I saw on her face (he was OK – the problems were with the phone lines being overloaded).
