CenterPoint Energy and Florida Power & Light (FPL) are the top two Smart Grid Investment Grant projects based on smart meters installed and by overall expenditure, according to a Zpryme report. Combined, CenterPoint and FPL have 2.6 million smart meters from their SGIG programs, 1.33 million and 1.29 million, respectively. The smart meter roll-out is noticeably at a critical juncture.
Other projects propelled by SGIGs include Oncor, which installed its two-millionth advanced smart meter in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton in recent weeks; Idaho Falls Power selected Elster for an AMI Smart Grid project; and Telvent was designated to implement Smart Grid solutions for Progress Energy Florida.
The report also highlighted that the US Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) expenditures are $2.6bn, signifying that only 1/3 of the total SGIG award value has been spent to date across all projects.
German energy regulator urges for grid stability measures
The German energy-network regulator, Bundesnetzagentur, has expressed concern that the country is not prepared for higher than normal blackouts following the country’s plans to phase out base load power from its nuclear energy plants.
Bundesnetzagentur president Matthias Kurth said that extensive efforts by power-transmission grid operators are required to avoid network failures, and thus power blackouts. The industrial belt of Southern Germanyis heavily reliant on nuclear power is prone to grid instability and blackouts.

What Routers Are CompatibleSince there are a couple different companies that provide Open Source router software, you should refer to their respective compatibility charts. It seems like the Linksys wrt54g is the most popular router for this firmware, but the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 is also popular due to its better WiFi range. But there are dozens of other Linksys, Buffalo and Asus routers that are capable of running this software via firmware update.
