A pretty, Spanish-inspired Tudor, it's adorned with tidy flowers and landscaping, and its stucco façade is painted an understated shade of taupe.
But when Rob Strasberg, chief creative officer of Doner Advertising in Southfield, and his artistic wife, Treger, set out to design their family home, the result was far from ordinary.
Playful, colorful and quirky, it's a veritable funhouse — all five bedrooms, 41/2 bathrooms and 5,700 square feet of it.
"You could call it 'modern childish,'" Strasberg says with a grin.
The unconventional home, with two columns of Uglydoll plush toys —17 blue, 17 green — lining the wall on each side of the entryway, is not exactly what you'd expect to find on the Birmingham House Tour. Yet it's sure to be the talk of the 24th annual event, scheduled Thursday.
The Strasbergs, who describe themselves as "large children," say the decor is exactly what they had in mind when they moved in three and a half years ago after relocating from Miami.
"Basically, whatever we wanted as kids, we put in this house," says Treger, 34, a graphics designer. "We both wanted to not take ourselves too seriously." Strasberg, 41, adds: "We wanted the house to be fun."
What luck for their two children: Henson, who will turn 6 this month, and Tuesday, 41/2. The Strasbergs named their son after Muppets creator Jim Henson. Their daughter is named for the day on which they had class together and fell in love when Rob was Treger's advertising teacher at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He gave her a B+, and she has been grading him ever since, she jokes.
As soul mates — or, dare we say, playmates — they're having a blast decorating their house, incorporating something whimsical or unexpected in every room.

Chartreuse velvet chairs are set around an acrylic Parsons table topped with silver Mercury vases. A custom coral-painted chandelier draped with crystal prisms, a black lacquer pillowed chest and a trio of mirrors complete the look.
On Julie's chrome and milk glass Parsons vanity table rests a gigantic "diamond" - a glass and metal prop she pounced on during a business trip to Las Vegas. The silver inlay chairs and the small gilded table at the foot of the bed are from India.
He settles himself in his sitting-room office at the back of the house, in a handsome leather Yrjö Kukkapuro chair (available from his shop). He is wearing one of his signature blue shirts, one of a dozen or so he had made to measure by Hawkes & Curtis
