A while back here we did a couple of columns about Crossfit Apex, one of the local Crossfit gyms in the Central Bucks area. It has not been by design, but they have kind of been left out of the loop for quite a while here on the column. By coincidence, I saw their name mentioned in my church bulletin this Sunday, which of course drew my interest immediately.  The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a few local churches, Apex crossfit and some other local folks will be hosting a great day for fitness & fun that will include a skateboarding contest, Apex Crossfit challenge, BMX demo, free food, loud music, free games, giveaways and more. The venue will be the Main Street Skate Park in Quakertown, Pa, on September 24th from noon until 5pm.

In other news, My young friend from the Twin City Powerlifting club, Brandon, did a great job at USAPL Bench Nationals last weekend , as reported by friend and fellow club member Don Kuhns;

Dave : Hope all is well with you and you had a good Labor Day weekend.  Have some info to pass on re:  Twin City member BRANDON MAURO.  He competed at the USAPL Bench Press Nationals this past weekend in Miami and did well.  He won the teen 16-17 division in the equipped category in the 105 kilo, or 231 lb. class.. I saw him at the Twin City picnic the previous Saturday and he was in the mid 240's , so he dropped a lot the last week,  { Ah, to be 17 again and be able to lose weight so quickly }.  He opened with 341, which is the weight he finished with at the I.P.F. Sub-Junior World's last May in Austria, {where he placed fourth } and easily lifted it for 3 white lights from the judges..A jump to 363 stalled mid-way and a third with the same was also no go.  By winning he is now eligible for his second international meet, the I.P.F.Sub-Junior Bench World's in the Czech Republic next year. My son, Mike will be working with him to get more out of his bench shirt since his raw numbers aren't much below what he's getting with the shirt. Several guys on the team are in training for the ADAU Central Pa. Championships which will be Oct.  22nd in Bigler. We plan on having a team entered and Mike and I will be doing our father-son thing on the platform again. It's been awhile since we did because his lifting has taken off and mine.... well, you know. At least I can still out-deadlift him!  Hope to see you soon at a workout. Be well.
