Car wash uses steam
POCATELLO — Unlike a typical drive-through car wash that processes 200 gallons of water to get the job done, a new system that’s located behind the Shell gas station on East Center Street near the Tuscany Hills development uses less than two pints of water.
“Not a drop of water is left behind on the floor of the building because steam is what’s used to get the dirt off. It immediately dissipates into the air,” says Bill Isley, one of the Tuscany Hills developers who recently opened a car detail shop and also invested in the new car wash technology. “The water savings are huge. It’s an environmental step forward as it also keeps the chemicals from the soap out of the sewage plant. If every car was washed this way, it would eliminate the need for millions of gallons of water to be processed per day.”
The system that materialized overseas in Europe and Japan is slowly making its way to the United States, according to Isley.
“It’s primarily used in countries that have experienced water shortages,” Isley says. “From an environmental standpoint, they are much more advanced than we are.”
Isley says the “touchless” car wash is chemical free. Moreover, it’s the 365 degree steam that easily lifts dirt off of a vehicle’s surface.
“I’ve never seen a car get so clean, especially the windows,” Isley says. “(The steam) is so effective that there are no oils, water spots or film that is left behind. ”
The steam technology is also utilized by workers at the detail shop called “La Bella Auto” that opened at the end of May behind the Shell gas station on East Center Street.
“A lot of our business stems from owners of local car lots,” Isley says. “The steam penetrates deep down into the fabric of the car’s interior — much like the process used to dry clean clothing. (The steam) also takes away any type of odor. We were able to get rid of the strong smell of cigar smoke recently, for example, and (the steam) is also a great way to remove any type of mold build-up that can be found in the air ducts (of a vehicle).

Place the stained fabric on an ironing board. On the water spot, place a moist cloth. Now iron the cloth. The stain may not go immediately, you may have to iron for sometime. For the cloth in between, do not use a heavily dyed cloth. Try using a clean pillowcase or a handkerchief. Try this method, only if the fabric’s cleaning instructions allow ironing.
V. Using Silk This method needs a piece of white silk. Make sure the square of white silk is clean and dry. Use it to rub the water stain on the stained silk. Do not rub the silk in a zig-zag manner or diagonally. Instead rub it gently up and down or from side to side in an uniform manner. Do not use colored silk to rub the spot away, as the color might run off one piece into the other. If you do not have white silk, use cotton or muslin.
VI. Dry Cleaning If those pesky water spots, stains and marks do not disappear from the silk fabric, then one last attempt is to seek professional help in the form of dry cleaning.
