A columnist bids the Oracle farewell
Those who have read any of my articles be it Maverick, Tales from Mars, Tech Specs or my latest Hollywood critiques know that I'm not the best writer. I ramble, I have run-on sentences, I have very little ability to separate the way I speak from the way I write.
I've been at it here at the Oracle for three years, though. So they were either desperate for content or just have no editing process whatsoever. The point is, I'm moving on.
The Oracle and her staff (yes, the Oracle is a beautiful lady) are something of a special breed. Writers tend to be cynics.
Oracle writers are cynics as well, but... of a more hopeful species, if that makes any sense. They helped me to find an oasis in Arkadelphia where I could speak my mind and not suffer to many repercussions.
I thank them for that.
Every night you spend at the Oracle, or at least every night I spent... there was some type of feeling in the air.
Like that was the last day of High School. It was as if everything was amplified.
I think that is in no small part to the kids that Mike Taylor, our swarthy faculty adviser, has picked for his paper over the years.
He picks kids that are bold enough to report the truth, but smart enough to do it with class, and at times, even pizazz.
I've seen many an editor over the past three years. None so dedicated as Cari Elliott. She really wants this paper done right. And that's why there is no place for me here any longer. J/K LOL OMG YOU GUYS, LOL..
Seriously though, Cari is a great editor, and she's going to take this paper to great places.
The rest of the Oracle staff I didn't really get to know, unfortunately. I know they're much more conservative this year, which is great any day. From what I have seen of their writing they're a great group, and a talented one at that.
To be honest after three years on the Oracle, this year I felt like Matthew McConaughey in "Dazed and Confused." "I get older, they stay the same age." So it's off to the front porch and my rocking chair with me. Some new young buck can fill my spot.
