DirkMD - Free CMIO Perspective: #SpeakFlower : A model for ...
So in my last post, I discussed the "problem of identifying the patient," and how it contributes to poor connectivity between systems. I have discussed some of the political problems with the sharing of health information, and some municipalities of different perspectives. I also briefly discussed some of the models under development, including NHIN / Direct (now officially called "The Project Direct").The problem is that, from my experience, many patients are like the substitute teacher, we were all in elementary school - even if they are technically in charge, they are new, they just showed up today, they fully understand the routine, and if they sometimes lack confidence and may be subject to "But Mrs. Smith-we-always-a-The first trick is to set a standard for this future model. From the ground up, the new health paradigm must be built. The framework of information for health care must be installed to allow for hospitals to function effectively, and for patients to be able - if they wish - bring their data with them. In other words, one patient = one table. So when a patient moves from one office to another, the systems talk to each other and enable true portability of data - without having to push or pull data.It reduces errors (as a medical doctor knows what has been done B) It reduces unnecessary tests (doctor because a doctor knows what B already ordered) It reduces the costs (because less testing means lower bills) It reduces waiting time (because doctors Don 't have to spend time trying to research your history) What if we could do a standard for data portability? Obviously, many patients refuse, citing personal privacy reasons - but even more patients ask for it? " is a placeholder for a standard that allows a patient to ask for a doctor/hospital/office to have all of their medical records transferred to a central site that the patient controls, so that other doctors could look at it in the future.
