10 enterprises that have big footprints

The University of Arizona

Tucson did not want the AU when the legislature decided in 1885 to build it here, but it turned out to be a great price.

With nearly 40,000 students and 15,000 full-time and part-time employees, the university is an economic and cultural force.

The National Science Foundation ranks the UA 24 in research and development expenditures between public and private universities.

In addition, the 1885 Tucsonans coveted Capital (which has remained, then, in Prescott) or the insane asylum (attributed to Phoenix).

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.

Freeport roots in Arizona date back to 1881 and a company called Phelps Dodge.

PD opened its first mine, the Copper Queen in Bisbee. His money built or supplied the wealth of entire cities as Douglas, Morenci and Ajo.

Freeport PD acquired in 1997 and today has operations in Arizona Morenci, Bagdad, Sierrita, Safford and Miami. They employ more than 7000.

An analysis of the Arizona State University in 2010 said the direct and indirect economic impact of the company in Arizona was 2.1 billion.

Tucson Unified School District

What was then called District 1 was created in 1867 and opened in a location with an adobe dirt floor and benches for 55 students. The school lasted six months and closed for lack of funds.

In 1872 the school was back in session. Registration has grown in fits and starts, but really exploded after the Second World War. In 1956, the district boasted 6800 Tucson High students have the largest college in the United States.

Today, the district has 2,700 teachers and 53,000 students - against 62,000 as recently as 2000 - but still more of the city.

Davis-Monthan

Tucsonans wanted to military aviators. As far back as the 1920s, the city made plans and bought enough land to try to win the War.

There was a small military refueling at Davis-Monthan Field, then the airport of the city, but it was not until 1940 that Washington said it would establish a military air base here .

The Book of Nogi: The Ajo Observer

So I came here in Ajo hoax on the issue throughout the school where I felt poorly managed schools and the News of copper does not share exactly how everyone felt. I realize they have a list of requirements that you send the paper to have, but it was the very thing that prevents people from being heard. I remember being pissed about what I perceived as a means of copper news because, when the brother of the editor was on the board. But I let go and then I kind of understand why the news of copper did what they did. More ... A few months later I was in a little depression. I was bored and upset. All my friends moved to Tucson to live their life out of exciting events, but here in Ajo, I continued to live my life monotonous. So the question of what can you give back to your community have begun to return. I thought that I would be hearing about these people Ted.com average organizing projects using these brilliant talents. Considering my talent was in the technology field I started trying to figure out what I can give Ajo with this talent. I then thought about the joke and the school climate that surrounds it. People expressed a desire to be heard. So I decided to try to give back his voice Ajo. The problem the Copper News is trying to avoid is printing information that might be flawed or damaging to people's reputations. I can respect that and I'll strive to live up to those standards. Where there is a controversial story, however, I think both sides need to be equally represented without bias. How do I avoid bias? Simple. By letting people report their own stories and letting others comment them. Don't agree with what this person wrote? You can now comment on the story and add information that might have been omitted or factually incorrect. In this way the community itself acts as its own checks and balances system. It also encourages community dialogue.
